Gold Plating (24K)
the 24K plating on Bare Bone Interior (BBI) items is 100% gold—a rare karat for plating because it’s very soft and susceptible to damage. Solid gold doesn’t oxidize or change color, however it is very soft. it’s best to avoid exposing plated items to harsh environments or handling excessively. For skulls with detached mandibles, metal to metal contact can easily cause the gold plating to chip. BBI jewelry is best worn when You want to make a statement. Keep it high and dry—away from moisture, chemicals, perfumes and lotion. Store separately to avoid damage.
Patina
Darkened in a warm bath of Sulfurated Potash, this dark patina may lighten over time, especially if handled or worn excessively. If exposed to a humid environment, eventually the piece may begin to take on green or blue shades, adding to the overall character of the maturing patina.
Nickel Plating
nickel plating is used on some BBI products because it Helps maintain a shiny silver brilliance while also protecting against corrosion and oxidation. Nickel is moderately durable but will still wear and easily chip if handled carelessly. Please note: Nickel can cause an allergic Skin reaction in some people. If experienced, Please discontinue use/contact.
Polished Bronze
The first time I polished bronze, I was pleasantly surprised because Freshly polished Silica bronze will appear almost white or silver. However, due to oxidation, Bronze will quickly turn golden, and eventually darken to its natural brown color—This is its resting state. If bronze is exposed to a humid environment, eventually the piece may begin to take on green or blue shades, adding to the overall character. The change over time simply tells its life’s story.
Cleaning
The best way to clean Bare Bones Interior products is to us a clean microfiber cloth. Gently rub any dust or fingerprints away. If heavier cleaning is required, put a drop of dish soap in a cup of warm water and use a small microfiber towel or cotton swab to gently rub clean any markings from your piece. Use a fresh microfiber cloth to dry.
Skulls ‘n’ Mandibles
The mandibles on some Bare Bones Interior Skulls are designed to be individual from the skull. This is so the viewer can study and experience the bones as they would be found in nature. It can also allow for various display positions, together or separately from the mandible.
Note: The jawbone does have a specific fit to the skull. If it appears the teeth are not aligning as they should, To avoid damage to the cosmetic or plating, please always ensure the mandible is seated correctly in the mandibular fossa—not behind, in front, or askew. (please see the diagram).
Electroplating
It’s important to note that the electroplating material on Bare Bones Interior Items is fragile and can chip if dropped or mishandled. This is especially true for Skulls with detachable mandibles. When joining together the mandible and skull, or any two metal pieces, please do so carefully to ensure long life for your bare bones interior pieces.
